It is important to follow your practitioner’s instructions for treatment. You will have little to no discomfort when these instructions are followed:
During the first 24 hours post:
• Vinegar soaks at least 3-5 times daily. Cannot soak too much!
• Use ice/cold packs every two hours for 20 minutes maximum for swelling and discomfort.
• Cover your treated areas with Pro Salve (included in Post Aid kit) or Aquaphor.
• Keep your head elevated by using two or more pillows when lying down.
Should you have any concern after hours following treatment please call the office at 615-829-7198 and follow instructions to reach the Nurse Practitioner on call.
After the first 24 hours:
• Continue taking all medications as directed by your physician.
• If necessary, as directed take a pain reliever of practitioner’s choice.
• Skin may feel sensitive; have a red pigmented and swollen appearance depending on treatment. Treated area may also itch. These are all normal.
• Continue to keep treated areas covered with Pro Salve every 3-4 hours. This will decrease healing time and minimize discomfort and itching.
• Periodically spray the area for moisture. Avene spray water and Cucumber Spritz are included in your Post Aid kit for this purpose. (feel free to refrigerate these)
• If you feel pain 2 days or more after the procedure, call your Practitioner.
• Begin cleaning the skin twice daily with a mild, hypo allergenic cleanser. DO NOT SCRUB treated area. Apply the salve after each wash.
• Avoid sun exposure during the first few weeks following the procedure. A sunscreen with SPF 50 or above should be used for any transient exposure. If possible cover the treated area with a hat or clothing to further reduce exposure.
• Keep all follow up appointments so your practitioner can assess your progression.
• If there is an increase in pain or redness call practitioner promptly.
• Following treatment normal activities may resume per level of comfort. However, no swimming or using hot tubs/ whirlpools while redness is present. Usually 72 hours.
• Once you feel comfortable and healed, a normal skin care regime, including make up or shaving, can be resumed. Make sure water is not too hot for cleansing or shaving.
• With any further questions please contact your nurse practitioner.
