How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal treatments work by using controlled laser energy to destroy hair follicles and prevent them from producing more hair. Laser hair removal is done in multiple treatment sessions because the laser energy disables hair follicles in the “active” growth phase and not all hair follicles grow at the same rate. At Trace Skin Care, we use the Cynosure® Apogee Elite system for our laser hair removal treatments. This system allows us to customize our treatment to suit each of our patient’s needs and treat larger areas in a shorter amount of time.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required in order to achieve your optimal results can vary from patient to patient depending on the thickness of hair and size of the designated treatment area. We typically recommend at least six to eight treatment session spaced about four to six weeks apart. You may periodically require additional “touch-up” treatments in order to maintain the results of your laser hair removal treatments. Results may vary.
Are there any possible side effects?
You may experience some redness or swelling in the treated area following a laser hair removal treatment. These are common, temporary side effects and typically subside within a few days of a treatment session. You should plan to avoid excessive sun exposure and use extra sun protection if you plan to be exposed to the sun, as laser hair removal treatments can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
Am I a candidate?
Laser hair removal treatments are not effective for patients with blonde, red, white, or gray hair due to the lack of melanin in the hair follicles. The Cynosure® Apogee Elite system is safe for all skin tones and skin types and is especially effective for patients with light or olive-colored skin tones. We will review your specific concerns and desired results during your initial consultation and recommend the appropriate treatment plan to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
